4 Ways To Improve Lunchtime During The Work Week

Posted on

If you're like most people, you have probably had this experience: you're sitting at work, and all of a sudden, you get exhausted around midday. That's because people need food to fuel their bodies, and after several hours without sustenance, it's natural to feel sluggish. A great lunch can perk you up and give you something to look forward to during the work day. Here are four ideas to help you improve lunchtime during the work week:

1. Bring oatmeal.

If you're prone to skipping meals, you may not like the idea of eating something heavy midday. However, you should still make it a point to eat something. Oatmeal is the perfect compromise for someone who doesn't want to deal with the hassle of cooking a meal. Instant oatmeal is easy to pack, and it can be made using hot water or a microwave. It's a healthy source of carbohydrates, which provide fuel for your brain and body.

2. Pack leftovers.

Sandwiches and salads may be classic packed lunch fare, but that isn't all you can eat. If you want your lunches to be more varied, consider making extra dinner the night before. Leftovers can be a fantastic way to get more variety in your office meals. If you have a microwave available in your office break room, the sky is the limit. Spaghetti, casserole, and roast meats all reheat wonderfully, and they can provide a healthy boost of energy to carry you through the day.

3. Head to a local sandwich shop.

Sometimes you don't want to eat food that you've prepared yourself. In that case, it's time to head out to a nearby restaurant. Sandwich shops offer a great variety of meats, cheeses, and vegetables that are easy to eat when layered between two pieces of delicious bread. Customize your sandwich so it's exactly what you want. If you're on a diet, you can skip the mayo and opt for low calorie fillings like mustard and turkey breast.

4. Have pizza delivered.

This is a fun routine you can establish with your coworkers if they're interested. Get everyone in the office to chip in for pizza once a week, and have several fresh pizza pies delivered to your office. Nothing is as mouthwatering as a hot, gooey slice of pizza. It's the perfect cure for the Monday blues or a great way to celebrate Friday. When several people are contributing to the pizza fund, it can even be quite affordable.
